Hello Scorpio season! How’d you get here so fast? We are in the midst of fall with the leaves changing and pumpkin spice lattes surrounding us. People born at this time are just like the breeze that shakes the trees of it’s vibrant leaves. They do not back down and are not afraid of controversy and confrontation to prove what’s right or wrong. However, as a water sign, they are still very in tuned with their emotions and stay true to themselves as they take on what life throws their way. So here are the perfect books to read for all those Scorpios out there.

The Perfect Book Recs for Scorpios

1. SLAY by Brittney Morris

Kiera Johnson just doesn’t give up in this coming-of-age, girl power novel. By day, seventeen-year-old Kiera Johnson is an honors student, a math tutor, and one of the only Black kids at Jefferson Academy. But at home, she joins hundreds of thousands of Black gamers who duel worldwide as Nubian personas in the secret multiplayer online role-playing card game, SLAY. Driven to save the only world in which she can be herself, Kiera must preserve her secret identity and harness what it means to be unapologetically Black in a world intimidated by Blackness. If you’re a scorpio, you will stop at nothing to protect what you truly believe in, even if the stakes are higher than you’ve ever imagined!

2. The Perfect Candidate by Peter Stone

Scorpios LOVE a good debate, whether they are right or wrong, nothing will stop them from taking on a challenge. They live for controversial topics and don’t mind a bit of conspiracy here and there. In the Perfect Candidate, Cameron Carter lands an internship with Congressman Billy Beck in Washington, DC, he thinks it is his ticket out of small town captivity. What he lacks in connections and Beltway polish he makes up in smarts, and he soon finds a friend and mentor in fellow staffer Ariel Lancaster. That is, until she winds up dead. Cameron realizes Washington isn’t at all what it seems. Conspiracy, deception, and mysteries are all in this book, a Scorpio win!

3. The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid

The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid

This book is the adventure Scorpios will be on the edge of their seats for.  All the action and courage in this story is driven by pure emotion and if that’s not a Scorpio, I have no idea what is! A Diabolic is ruthless. A Diabolic is powerful. A Diabolic has a single task: Kill in order to protect the person you’ve been created for. Nemesis is a Diabolic, a humanoid teenager created to protect a galactic senator’s daughter, Sidonia. The two have grown up side by side, but are in no way sisters. Nemesis is expected to give her life for Sidonia, and she would do so gladly. She would also take as many lives as necessary to keep Sidonia safe.

4. Dry by Neal Shusterman and Jarrod Shusterman

When the California drought escalates to catastrophic proportions, Alyssa is forced to make life and death decisions for her family in this harrowing story of survival. At the core of many decisions made by a Scorpio are deep emotions and in this novel it is no different. Alyssa’s family is the very thing that keeps her going when water becomes nothing less than a dream.

5. American Panda by Gloria Chao

At seventeen, Mei should be in high school, but skipping fourth grade was part of her parents’ master plan. Now a freshman at MIT, she is on track to fulfill the rest of this predetermined future: become a doctor, marry a pre-approved Taiwanese Ivy Leaguer, produce a litter of babies.
With everything her parents have sacrificed to make her cushy life a reality, Mei can’t bring herself to tell them the truth—that she (1) hates germs, (2) falls asleep in biology lectures, and (3) has a crush on her classmate Darren Takahashi, who is decidedly not Taiwanese. She’ll have to find a way to be herself, whoever that is, before her web of lies unravels. This book speaks to Scorpios because they know that being their own self is priceless and even if they have to fight for it, it’s always worth it.

6. When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon

Dimple Shah I feel has many characteristics of a Scorpio, no matter what her mother expected of her, she knew she was going to do what made her proud. Even someone like Rishi Patel coming in and (almost) ruining things with his hopeless romantic dreams, Dimple refuses to give him the time of day that doesn’t involve a task for the summer web developing program. Though, like Scorpios, Dimple can’t help but get swept into feeling something.

7. I’ll Never Tell by Abigail Haas

Swimming, sunshine, and golden beaches. It was supposed to be the best time of Anna’s life. Paradise. But then the unthinkable happens. Anna’s best friend is found brutally murdered and when the local police begin to investigate the gruesome crime, suspicion falls on one person—Anna. Scorpios don’t appreciate when people aren’t genuine, and Anna’s the most genuine character…or was she delusional?
