After watching all of Outer Banks the night season one dropped on Netflix, two things were certain: 1. Pogues 4 life! And 2. I needed a second season immediately! Well, now that we’ve been BLESSED with seasons two and three, it’s time once again to fill the hole left by Outer Banks as we wait for season four. Sadly we have quite a bit of time before the next season comes out, so I’ve compiled a list of all the books to read if you, like me, are obsessed with OBX.

Books to Read If You’re OBSESSED with Outer Banks

1. I Killed Zoe Spanos by Kit Frick

Murder, wrongly-convicted killers, class differences, summery beach town vibes, the similarities between I Killed Zoe Spanos and OBX go on and on. So take a break from watching fan videos on Youtube and let this book fill the void left behind by Outer Banks.

2. The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han

Belly is in for an unforgettable summer, just like John B and the rest of the Pogues in Outer Banks. One of my favorite things about OBX is the budding love triangle between Kiara, JJ, and Pope that we can only hope to see more of in season 3. So why not read about an epic love triangle between Belly and brothers. Jeremiah and Conrad in The Summer I Turned Pretty.

3. In Deeper Waters by F.T. Lukens

One of the best things about Outer Banks is the treasure-hunting mystery. The twists and turns of discovering the Royal Merchant from season one are only amplified in season two as the Pogues hunt down the Cross of Santo Domingo. So if the seafaring adventures from Outer Banks are your favorite, you’ll love this book about a young prince who must rely on a mysterious stranger to save him when he is kidnapped by pirates during his coming-of-age tour.

4. Love & Olives by Jenna Evans Welch

Hunting down the lost city of Atlantis is the same as hunting down the Royal Merchant, right? Outer Banks perfectly combines summer beach town vibes with the high-risk hunt for gold, and don’t get me started on John B and Sarah Cameron’s relationship! So if you’re looking to fill the void left by season two of OBX, pick of Love & Olives, a story about a teen girl finding romance while trying to connect with her absent father in beautiful Santorini, Greece as he hunts for the lost city of Atlantis.

5. Retro by Sofia Lapuente and Jarrod Shusterman

Did the last three episodes of Outer Banks stress you out? Same. By the end of the last episode I was literally pacing back and forth while watching, because I couldn’t sit still. So if you’re looking for another heart-racing summery thriller, definitely check out Retro. Anna’s summer takes a turn for the worse when her best friend is found dead and she’s the prime suspect.

6. Blackhearts by Nicole Castroman

A book about pirates?! Whaat? But hear me out, the Pogues are literally looking for gold and they spend the majority of their time sailing around the Outer Banks. So this book is perfect for you if your favorite part of the show was the treasure hunting and seafaring.

7. Bad Things Happen Here by Rebecca Barrorw

An idyllic Island setting with beautiful oceanfront homes and a thrilling murder mystery is the perfect recipe for a good book. Alliances are made and secrets are revealed in Bad Things Happen Here, much like in Outer Banks!

8. Today Tonight Tomorrow by Rachel Lynn Solomon

I won’t lie and say I didn’t swoon when John B professed to Sarah Cameron in the rain that they have something real after spending one day together. Well, in Today Tonight Tomorrow, rivals work together in a senior class game that takes them all around Seattle over the course of one night. By the end they’ll discover that they might actually be perfect for each other and in the immortal words of John B “That’s like Big Foot evidence rare!”

9. Phoebe Will Destroy You by Blake Nelson

I literally don’t know how many times I said, “JJ why did you bring the gun?!” while watching Outer Banks. And yet, there was something truly vulnerable and endearing to JJ’s self-destructive nature. You can find more of that vulnerability in both Phoebe and Nick in Phoebe Will Destroy You.

11. Start Here by Trish Doller

If you loved Sarah Cameron and Kiara’s friendship in Outer Banks, then you should definitely read Start Here. Willa and Taylor spend their summer on a life-changing sailing trip on which they will discover if their friendship is truly worth saving.

12. The Lady Rogue by Jenn Bennett

Theo and John B have quite a lot in common. Like having treasure-hunting fathers who have gone missing, bad guys chasing them, and not knowing whom to trust. Granted Theo is living in 1937 Europe and not 2020 North Carolina but trust me, this is definitely worth the read if you’re a fan of OBX.
