The new decade has arrived! As we head into the roaring 20’s, we’re looking back at some of the amazing books that came out in the 2010s. Check out this list of books from the last decade that you need to read (or frankly re-read) ASAP!
Books From the Last Decade That You Should Read ASAP
1. Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare
I know what you’re thinking. You’re wondering why I put the third book of The Infernal Devices trilogy on this list. Well, it’s because I think you should read ALL THREE of these books ASAP! This is such an amazing trilogy by Cassandra Clare and personally, my favorite of her book series. Once you get to the end of Clockwork Princess you will be sobbing and definitely counting down the days until Chain of Gold comes out so you can see these characters again!
2. Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
Let’s face it, the 2010s was the decade of paranormal and supernatural romances. Hush, Hush was one of my favorites and is a definite must read because it’s being made into a movie! Also there are sexy demons and fallen angels. Need I say more?
3. Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi
In my humble opinion, I think Mary H.K. Choi is a genius. Her writing will have you laughing at the witty banter and crying at the emotional scenes. Plus it’s also nice to read a YA romance that seems very relatable as you read Sam and Penny’s texts to each other.
4. Scythe by Neal Shusterman
Imagine a world where there is no disease, war, or dying of old age. Sounds great right? Well… not really because you have to find other ways to deal with population control. Which in this case is people known as Scythes whose job it is to kill a certain amount of people to keep the population in check. This book is truly amazing and incredibly clever. If you haven’t already read it, go do it immediately!
5. Aristotle & Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz
If you haven’t read Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe yet – really what are you waiting for? Aristotle meets Dante, another Mexican-American teen, at a local swimming pool, and in each other, both loners learn more about who they are.
6. Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds
Jason Reynolds is by far one of the most amazing authors I’ve ever read. Long Way Down is a powerful piece that takes place over sixty seconds as one boy in an elevator tries to decide whether or not he’s going to murder the guy who killed his brother. On each floor Will’s met with another person from his brother’s past to give him a piece to a bigger story than the one he thinks he knows.
7. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before took the world by storm when the Netflix movie came out and it’s fair to say Peter K and Lara Jean are now household names. If you thought the movie was good, the book is even better! This adorable trilogy is an absolute must-read.
8. Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger
Keeper of the Lost Cities follows 12 year old Sophie as she must figure out why she is the key to her brand-new world. The eighth book in this incredibly popular series just came out this past year and there are still more books to come! So start where it all began and pick up this book asap!
9. A Heart in a Body in the World by Deb Caletti
This book is so beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. When everything has been taken from you, what else is there to do but run? That is exactly what Annabelle does. She runs from Seattle to Washington, DC as she struggles to come to terms with loss and love.
10. Love & Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch
Sometimes you just want to read a really good romance. If that’s the case, Love & Gelato is one of the best. The summer has a lot in store for Lina as she travels through Tuscany with a journal that her mom had kept when she lived in Italy. Filled with mysteries, art, and cute Italian boys, I guarantee you’ll be smiling the whole time as you read this book.
