If you love the Shadowhunters and you love astrology, this is the article of your dreams! See below for your perfect Shadowhunters book pairing based on your Zodiac sign!

Please note: this list is based on vibes and vibes alone!

City of Heavenly Fire cover image
City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare

Aries (march 21 - april 19)

common traits: Fiery, passionate, determined, courageous

The entire crew in the final installment of the Mortal Instruments Series emulate Aries vibes. All are determined and courageous in their mission to defeat Sebastian (who actually is an Aries!) in this momentous finale. I mean, Jace is literally on fire half the time, and his romance with leading lady Clary has always been one of the most passionate romances of the Shadowhunters universe.

Clockwork Angel cover image
Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

Common traits: Kind, generous, loyal, patient

In Clockwork Angel, we meet Jem Carstairs, a beloved Shadowhunter character who displays all the traits of a Taurus. Jem is known for his kindness, loyalty, and patience (one needs a lot of patience to be parabatai with Will Herondale, after all).  Don’t think Jem is a doormat, though, he is also surprisingly stubborn at time in the series, displaying another notable Taurus trait.

Chain of Thorns cover image
Chain of Thorns by Cassandra Clare

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

Common traits: Independent, passionate, smart, charming, gentle

Grace Blackthorn has been one of the great mysteries of The Last Hours series and in the epic conclusion, we finally get to see what makes her tick. To be honest, she’s been a character we’ve loved to hate but there’s more to her than meets the eye.

Clockwork Princess cover image
Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

Common Traits: Compassionate, sentimental, protective, emotional

Cancers are emotional, compassionate, and protective people, and Tessa Gray in the Clockwork Princess gives major cancer vibes. Tessa is super compassionate and will do anything to protect the people she loves. Her love triangle (AKA the best love triangle of all time) with Will and Jem is so cancer-coded it’s crazy. As a cancer myself, I was SOBBING during that Epilogue. If you know, you know.

Chain of Iron cover image
Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare

Leo (July 23 – August 22)

Common Traits: Charismatic, dramatic, confident, fun

Even though we got to see Matthew Fairchild in some of the short stories, we didn’t truly get to know James Herondale’s parabatai until the second book in The Last Hours series. What can we say? Matthew was worth the wait. Dramatic, confident, fun… a snappy dresser… Mathew is the total package.

Lady Midnight cover image
Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

Common Traits: Humble, practical, organized, patient

Virgos are known to be organized, patient, and practical, and we see many of these traits in the characters of the first book of the Dark Artifices series. From Emma’s methodical murder board and her patient, yet determined search for her parents’ killers to Ty’s practical nature and attention to detail, to Julien’s patience as he singlehandedly raises his younger siblings, all the Shadowhunters in Lady Midnight give major Virgo vibes.

City of Glass cover image
City of Glass by Cassandra Clare

Libra (September 23 – October 22)

Common Traits: Romantic, artistic, friendly, persuasive

So much happens in City of Glass that give Libra vibes. Clary and Jace’s forbidden romance finally comes to a head. Clary’s special rune drawing abilities make or break the climax of this book. So many different people and characters must be persuaded to work together to save the Shadowhunter world as they know it.

City of Lost Souls cover image
City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)

Common Traits: Mysterious, powerful, brave, resourceful

I don’t think there’s a more mysterious Shadowhunters book than City of Lost Souls. After Jace’s disappearance at the end of City of Fallen Angels, we see him joined with Sebastian, of all evil people. Clary is also very resourceful when she bravely decides to join Jace and Sebastian as they galivant on mysterious, evil business. This books from start to end definitely screams Scorpio.

Clockwork Prince cover image
Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)

Common Traits: Extroverted, strong-willed, adventurous, free-spirited

Sagittarius are known to be strong-willed, and who is more stubborn than a Herondale, specifically Will Herondale? Adventure is Will’s middle name. Granted, he has a death wish, but still he knows how to bring the excitement and let’s face it, no one is going to tell Will Herondale what to do… except maybe Tessa.

Chain of Gold cover image
Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)

Common Traits: Traditional, disciplined, ambitious, independent

Chain of Gold has so much Capricorn energy. Set in the traditional Edwardian London, the large cast of characters are set up against both massive and internal evil forces. We see Capricorns’ classic trait of ambition in many areas: in Grace’s nefarious plans, in Charles’ goal of governmental power, and in Cordelia’s desperation to be a hero and save her family’s reputation.

The Red Scrolls of Magic cover image
The Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Clare

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)

Common Traits: Humanitarian, eccentric, individualistic, cool

Aquariuses are known to be eccentric, individualistic, and cool, so I had to ask myself…who is the coolest character in the Shadowhunters books? The answer came to me immediately – Magnus Bane, of course. The Red Scrolls of Magic shows Magnus’s eccentricities perfectly as he and Alec fight stop the Crimson Hand, an elusive and dangerous cult started by…Magnus, himself. Years ago, as a joke.

City of Bones cover image
City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Pisces (February 19 – March 20)

Common Traits: Creative, easy-going, faithful, sensitive

The City of Bones is definitively Pisces coded. We get introduced to Clary Fray, a young artist, who is thrown into the Shadowhunters world we all know and love. Clary is the perfect protagonist as she fights to find her mother, who is kidnapped in the beginning of the book. Clary is creative and learns to have faith in the people who care for her in this book that started it all!

To win his heart, she teams up with the annoyingly cute neighbor, Wes. Liz and Wes’s relationship gives serious Nick and Jess vibes, not to mention Jess’s favorite movie is Dirty Dancing, and the famous dance routine from that movie is right smack on the cover of Better Than the Movies. The Voice Upstairs cover image
The Voice Upstairs by Laura E. Weymouth
If you’re a true New Girl fan, you’ll know that all throughout the show, Nick is an aspiring novelist and finally makes it big at the end. At first, he starts his writing career off with a terrible zombie novel, but he finds real success in his YA detective series, the Pepperwood Chronicles. This is why we had to pair him with The Voice Upstairs. This book is a total mystery with a secretly romantic soul, just like Nick himself! The Voice Upstairs comes out in October, and you can preorder here!
We Can’t Keep Meeting Like This cover image
We Can’t Keep Meeting Like This by Rachel Lynn Solomon
Schmidt is proudly Jewish, so we had to match him with one of our fave Jewish authors, Rachel Lynn Solomon – and We Can’t Keep Meeting Like This is PERFECT for Schmidt’s character. I’m sure that is something he would say to his love interest, Cece, as they continue to toe the line of a serious relationship through the seasons, just like Quinn and Tarek!
Mysteries of Thorn Manor cover image
Mysteries of Thorn Manor by Margaret Rogerson
Who is Winston without his weirdly close relationship to his furry companion, Ferguson? Winston without Ferguson is like Nathaniel and Elisabeth without Silas – sad and alone. I needed to pair Winston/Ferguson with Mysteries of Thorn Manor, the feel-good novella following our fave characters from the world of Sorcery of Thorns.
The Love Match cover image
The Love Match by Priyanka Taslim
Cece has had ups and downs in romance. From an arranged marriage to a douchey DJ, Cece yearns for her perfect match, a feeling Zahra from The Love Match also has as she, too, is arranged.
